Welcome to a new fraternal year with new expectations, goals and high hopes. We are coming off of another spectacular year with a Circle of Honor to show for the hard work each of you have contributed throughout the year. What will it take to “3 peat” you ask? Your continued effort to put your faith into action by building up your councils with new members, so that they may put their faith into action. Success at the council level leads to success at the assembly level, and that success continues to rise all the way to Supreme. Regardless of how you started your month of August, turn your attention to the Month of August. Let’s make August an extraordinary month by inviting twice as many men to join our order than August. Start with membership drives in the early weeks of August, making sure that each of your councils hosts a drive. More and more young men are returning to church with their families in tow. Getting these men connected with the needs of the church is one sure way to deepen their faith while engaging in meaning church activities.
Here is an example or recipe for getting young men involved in the life of the church. First, reach out to your pastor. Ask him specifically what are his needs for the church and how Knights can assist with addressing these needs. I recently had a face to face with my parish pastor and asked him these questions. His response was that he needed help keeping church relics clean, assistance keeping the Narthex noise level down before church and he wanted our Knights to be more involved in community outreach help. Second, to involve your council, pass this information on to your Grand Knight, so that he leads the charge to respond to these very specific needs. The final step to getting young men involved in church life involves putting together action teams to meet father’s needs. These teams should consist of both new Knights as well as non-Knights. When men work alongside Knights putting their faith into action the experience provides for relationship building, fellowship and bonding that could lead to an acceptance to the invitation to join our order. In each request of my pastor, opportunities exist to invite both knights and non-knights to serve our church in an enriching faith experiencing endeavor. Sounds familiar? No matter what level of success you achieved last year, this year can be your best year ever! A positive mind set and willingness to invite others to put their faith into action as you do daily, makes all the difference in the world.
